Watermark and printing overlays

edited September 2005 in General
I am using rb 7.04 and Delphi 7.

We use a standard label filled in with a "DRAFT" value with a light gray
font to provide a watermark/overlay. Preview looks fine but on printing
to a postscript printer, the light gray becomes jet black. Tried
transparent checkbox but didn't matter. Postscript printer works fine
with Microsoft word overlay.

Is there a patch to allow report builder to print to a postscript
printer successfully. If we use xtraoptions product we can convert to a
pdf and it works fine, but client has heart burn with that.

Read all the posts about the Page Style method but a post also mentioned
this same problem with it too plus it put it behind the text instead of
in front.

Thankyou

    Hi Louis,

Unfortunately some printers have issues with grey and transparent objects.
ReportBuilder does not communicate directly with your printer, it uses
built-in Windows API calls which then communicate with your printer driver
which in turn tells your printer to print. Does the watermark show up
correctly on screen? If not, let me know the exact printer you are using so
I can download the printer driver and test. Also, make sure you are using
the latest printer driver available for the printer you are using.

Hi Nico, YES the PREVIEW looks GREAT. But sending the output to some
printers works and some do not. The ones that do not, seem to work fine
with a microsoft word watermark. That is why I wondered what the
difference between what word sends to the printer and what report
    builder sends.

    Hi Louis,

ReportBuilder uses the most common/generic Windows API commands which in
turn communicate with your printer driver. It is up to the creator of the
printer driver to support these commands properly. In the past we have
found that most printer drivers function correctly however there are a few
that will give incorrect results when dealing with grey and transparent
images and text. You may try contacting the driver author support and ask
if they have any known issues.

Microsoft does not release the source to Word so we have no way of knowing
how it communicates with a connected printer. Although that would be nice
    :).
