How to show the database connection

On one app, the database settings are being lost on the designer and I have to reset each time. I'm trying to work out at what point the disappear but I can't any combination of the code below that will work. What should it be ?
ppReport1.dataSOurce.DataSet.ConnectionName
I've tried datasettings as well.

We are going to need more information about your setup to track this down.
1. You mention this only happens on one app. How is this app different from the applications that function correctly?
2. Are you loading templates?
