How can I copy a query?

edited May 2004 in End User
I am an end user using the report builder that came with our program.

I need to make a subreport and would like to make a copy of the query I
already have in
my report so I can link them and have one be the master and the other be the
detail.

But I've tried everything and cannot figure out how to copy it.

Thanks!

    Hi Sue,

There is no way to directly "copy" a query in the Data workspace. I am
unsure which features you have access to in your end-user program. You will
need to contact the vendor of your application for more support on this
    issue.

Please understand that Digital Metaphors can only provide tech support to
the Delphi developers that purchase ReportBuilder. Digital Metaphors
receives no distribution royalties from Delphi developers that embed
end-user reporting solutions in their applications. It is the responsibility
of the software publishers that sold you the product to provide you with
    tech support.

There is an end-user tutorial called Learning ReportBuilder that can be
downloaded from our web site for free. See the following article for more
    infomation.

    --------------------------------
    Article: Learning ReportBuilder
    --------------------------------

Learning ReportBuilder is a complete learning system designed to teach end
users how to build a range of reports. This system includes a 125-page PDF
file, a stand-alone application complete with a database, and a help file.
The PDF file is comprised of a series of tutorials that step end users
through the process of building reports as simple as a table listing and as
complex as crosstabs. The tutorials also introduce conceptual aspects of
report building along the way. The application is used in conjunction with
the tutorials so that the learning experience is interactive. The end user
just prints out the PDF file, runs the application, and learns
ReportBuilder. The help file is accessible from the application, so all
three tools work together to provide a seamless learning environment.

Learning ReportBuilder installs into C:\Program Files\LearnReportBuilder.
When the system has successfully installed, a complete set of instructions
appears in the form of a 'ReadMe' doc, so the end user knows just what to do
    upon installation.

    Hi Nico,

Would I be able to do this in Report Builder Professional or Enterprise?

Would it be possible to design reports in one of those programs, save
them as *.inf files and load them back into the end_user program?

Can RB Professional or Enterprise be installed on the same computer that
has the end-user program or will there be some sort of registry confusion?

I keep having to save views in our SQL Server database because
it is much easier for me but I would much rather not put things in
    that shouldn't be there.

    Thanks for your help!
    Sue

    Hi Susan,

    1. You would need ReportBuilder Pro to access the Data Workspace (data tab)
of the designer. As I said before, there is no automatic copy functionality
in ReportBuilder but it would be rather easy to recreate these queries
    manually.

    2. You could but you will need Delphi 5, 6, or 7 to use a release of
ReportBuilder. ReportBuilder is not a stand alone product.

    3. Yes, ReportBuilder comes with the capability to add an end-user solution
to your own apps (much like the people did that developed your current
application). Installing ReportBuilder will not affect this application.
