How to easily display Selection Criteria in Report Title
Bottom line question:
Is there some way that the Autosearch fields can be easily (without
Pascal programming) be put/printed onto a report. In other Reporting
tools, Criteria fields such as these R available for selection onto the
report. Why can't i get hold of these field values using a Variable or
Calc object in the Report Designer. Is it finger trouble?
More details:
folks, there's been other questions from developers wanting to print the
Selection Criteria (AKA AutoSearch fields) on the report.
After all, if a report is for Jan - Feb2006 its essential to print this
fact?
All i've seen is code samples in the Developers guide about using RAP. i
try to follow this but it appears i dont have RAP facility with RB Pro?
In addition, i was kind of hoping my end-users could make their reports
without needing to code in Pascal??
I've also seen the post regarding using the BeforePrint event in the
delphi form, but End-Users cant develop in Delphi pascal of course...

This is not a feature that is currently built into the product. This would
be nice feature to add to a future release.
ReportBuilder has an open architecture for adding new components. You can
create a custom component that does what you describe. For an example of
creating a custom component, see RBuilder\Demos\RCL.

i guess i need to upgrade to Enterprise version and use RAP.
i'll have a look at the custom component writing but i think its beyond
my resources to invest time in that course.
so i hope some future release will have the ability to display the
selection criteria on the report without Rapping, as i believe it will
be welcomed by developers and ordinary report writers.
the improvement such that the Autosearch fields (selection parameters
such as Report is for sales period from x to y) can be easily, without
Pascal programming, be displayed on an end user report.
I respectfully ask is there an eta on this or is my only option to ask
my end users to go on a computer programming course; or perhaps i am
missing something.

Thanks again for your feedback. We have noted your request and marked it
down as a possible enhancement for a later release. For the most part, our
maintenance releases are intended to provide the latest bug fixes to our
customers. Major enhancements such as new components will usually make it
in the product for a major release (i.e. RB 9.0, RB 10.0, etc.). Again
thanks for your feedback, we take all customer feedback very seriously and
look forward to helping your in the future.
