Please have your own Export Components

edited February 2007 in Devices
This is more of a plea than anything else.

I am a happy user of Report Builder except for one thing - exporting to
other devices. ReportBuilder only offers PDF export out of the box and this
output lacks the option for proper Rich Text output.

I have had issues with all the 3rd party options. The latest issue i have
is with the pragnaan (rarefind) components where the PDF export has huge
issues with Rich Text (text comes out larger in PDF and therefore some text
is missing! Also, awful quality) and massive issues with the Excel export
(lines are missing!, columns randomly put in wrong order). I wouldn't
recommend these components to anyone, and its made even worse by them having
no customer support at all and refusing to answer their emails. I've tried
the others and am currently trying Gnostice, but there are still issues with
that as well (Rich text is much better quality but there are lots of
rendering errors, excel output randomly misses columns and ignores
formatting).

In todays market, customers want to export their data in different formats
and everytime i have an issue with these exports its very difficult to
explain to the customer its nor really reportbuilders fault. However, the
truth is that Reportbuilder doesn't offer its own solution whilst it market
competitors do (crystal etc). So please, please offer your own export
devices!!!

    Hi James,

Thanks very much for the feedback. We are continually looking to enhance
the current PDF device and will consider adding quality RichText and Barcode
output to a later release. The addition of new export devices is also
something we would like to pursue and is something we will definitely
    consider for a future release.

    Hi James,

Thanks for airing your views here. We would really like to know what issues you
are having with the PDF output and other output formats. We are constantly
improving our products and as I speak, we are actually working on a new
version - a complete re-write of all the format engines - backed by all the
learnings from being in this for a while. I believe that our PDF engine is of a
very high quality and in terms of features and output it is way ahead of what's
there. And it's getting still better. If there are issues with Excel output, I
can tell you that we will be sorting out all issues with our next release.

I understand that you have been in touch with our support and we have replied to
your queries. Please do let us know if there are other queries.

I would like to second the request for quality PDF printing to all component
types. I was excited to see builtin PDF support in current release of RB,
but when I read here that the output for richtext and barcodes is not
"quality" I was glad I had not recommended the purchase to my boss. We
currently use an older version of RB Enterprise and it does very well - but
it would be nice if "quality" PDF support were builtin. It is difficult
enough to get approval for third party tools, adding an addon to an addon is
out of the question in terms of approval at this point. Thanks for the great
    product though.
