Converting from Enterprise to server version
We are upgrading to the server version today, and I'm trying to get my
head around the differences.
Currently, all of our reports are stored in a database. We have a
custom report explorer that essentially gets reports for us just like
the built in explorer (pass the name and loadtemplatefromdatabase).
All code we use is done via RAP, we do not ever do any reports or forms
at designtime. Our report module connects to one connection (We use
Advantage) and we design all of our data objects and do all of our
calucations via RAP.
In the server version, the manual appears to indicate that I can
confinue to access my stored reports from a dictionary. Would this be
a safe presumption?
Would i also be able to use the report explorer the same way I'm doing
it now (folders are objects in a table, nearly identical to the way the
RB End user demos do)?
Any other big things I need to prepare for to convert??
Thanks,
Chris

run through the tutorials--they will get you up and going.
yep.
yep.
the magic of the whole thing is that the conversion is so easy. Amazingly
easy. If you understand teh tutoairls converting to a server base reporting
system will not be that difficult.
Enjoy!

Excellent. The manual already helped. I haven't gotten it yet, I
think I placed my order a smidge too late tonight, but it appeared that
it would all be simple.
But then it just seemed like it would be too simple.......... So I
had to check.
Thanks for the quick reply.

In the $(Delphi)\RBServer\Developer's Guide there is a PDF file with
tutorials. Walk through that.
I know--and it is so fun to show off to user groups.... The most
difficult thing I found is convincing them that there is no Active X
controls--it's straight HTML.
Enjoy!

I have to say this is one of the best groups with regard to support.
Good peer to peer, and you DM guys always seem to have a zip file with
samples galore for just about every question. For this reason I didn't
choke as hard as I would normally have putting out the $800 smakers to
go from Enterprise to Server......
I'm going to mess with Server this weekend, so maybe ya'll should get a
pool going on how many questions I post by Sunday night!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just for anyone who is listening Team DM is not DM employees. Only
volunteers.

Ah.. Sadly, I didn't wake up until just after 11 this morning.. I've
only gotten as far as installing it!!!
A full week later and still no question--told you it was easy

There are few things I can't make it do, but I'm being responsible and
reading through all the demos and manuals and such...........
