Crystal to Report Builder

edited August 2001 in General
Hi,

I have seen all the posts in Delphi.ThirdPartyTools regarding how good
Report Builder is etc. and I have downloaded the demo, and it looks as
though it is what I need.

I have had enough of Cystal Reports 8 now, won't work with certain printers
and lots of random errors. No support for Delphi 6! New pricing structure
etc.

What I would like to know is:

1. Is there anything that Report Builder can't do that Crystal does.

2. Does Report Builder rely on the Printer as Crystal does. I design a
report on one machine/printer and then when it is printed on a different
machine/printer I can get cut off text or as above produces a floating point
error.

Realise that I will have to play with the demo a bit more first, but thought
I would ask anyway.

It works both ways. What you should look at is what do you need to
accomplish. Crystal can do things that ReportBuilder can't, and also,
ReportBuilder can do things that Crystal can't.

Crystal can natively support web enabled solutions like printing to HTML and
sending reports with email. Crystal is also a standalone application.

ReportBuilder is fully integrated with Delphi, which means that you can
recompile RB, change and replace any form(dialog). You can also create
reports entirely in code, on the fly. There are add-on components you can
purchase with which you can print to many different output devices,
including HTML and PDF www.waler.com See our website and look in the Friends
    web page.

Everytime ReportBuilder prints, it will generate the pages for the currently
selected printer. You can also control the entire printing process yourself
in RB, if you would like. Keep looking through the demos, and if you have
any questions let us know how we can help.
