Mixture of Archive and Explorer Volume

edited January 2004 in Server
Would there be a way to use the TrsReportExplorerVolume with archive files
into the database.
I like the tree-building-features of the explorer, and if it would be
possible to store in the blob field the raf files (as with the
TrsReportArchiveVolume), but with itemtype to something special ?

Kind Regards

The TrsReportArchiveVolume also supports the tree structure. This is
demonstrated in the RBServer\Demoes\Servers\Main demo and the
    RBServer\Demoes\Servers\VolumeTypes\Report Archives demo.

Set the TrsReportArchiveVolume.FileDirectory to the root folder and create
any number of nested subfolders beneath it. Place the archive files in the
    subfolders.

The ReportExplorerVolume supports live reports only.

Ok, but what if the feed comes out of a database ??
I can't find a Parent field as in the Folder Table ?

I'm having a quit sofisticated security system in the database on the Tree
structures and even on the selectable parameters in the autosearch forms.
This security system works fine in a databased environment, when using the
file structures i would lose this feature. (The security is easy in the
select of my query, i'm just feeding what is allowed on the getdirectory).

    Kind Regards

The TrsReportArchiveVolume does not support a database tree structure.

Try sing file based archives so that you have the tree structure. Then you
will need to implement security. The security info you could store in a
database or in one or more files. Use the ReportVolume events to control
access to the reports. (There are no search forms for archives).

    It's a solution Thx.
But wouldn't it be a great new features that in the items table not only
reports, core of data modules could be stord but as wel raf files.
It souldn't be a huge change for you guys, the data sturcture is ready, the
    explorer ......

I know, i'm dreaming but i honestly think this should be considered !

    Kind Regards.
