Yes you can run the client and server on the same machine, in fact the trial version requires it. The trial version is limited to running on localhost (127.0.0.1), it does not allow remote connections.
Other than a firewall or virus protection or other security software preventing the connection, it should work.

ya, and one of the things i notice is that your server stays running. Whereas mine when i run it, it the form goes away, but it shows that it is running in the task manager
this is way too weird
anyway, running your code doesn't help me
I followed the exact directions in the review and devlopers guide and mine wont run
WHen I removed the rsReportTemplateVolume1 component from my server app, it worked. Of course i got the explorer window, but it was blank, because now im not pointing to any files
Let me know what database you are using and what data access components. What type of ReportVolume are you using? What is your environment - Windows version, Delphi version, and I assume you are using RB 11.06 trial edition.
If you zip up your server project and send it to support@ I can take a look at it.

The Developers Guide, Demos, and Tutorials are installed by both trial and
registered versions.
The default location is Public Documents or Shared Folders on Vista or XP.
The default location is displayed during installation and can be overidden.

Can you run Demos\Servers\Main and then connect to it by running
Demos\Clients\ClientReport Explorer?
